Can I reschedule my lesson?

Mobile lessons can be rescheduled if more than 24hrs of notice is given.

Burnaby location lessons cannot be rescheduled.

Is parking free at the Burnaby location?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Just register your license plate with the Fitness 2000 front desk and you'll have free parking during your swim lesson!

Question 3

The pool is in a gym (Fitness 2000). Can I use the gym after?

Accepted Answer

Yes, all our students have access to the pool, gym, sauna, hot tub at a 50% discounted rate. Just register with the Fitness 2000 front desk team!

Whether you're looking to use their facilities before/after your lesson, or during your child's lesson, we can make it happen!

How does the Burnaby waitlist work?

Accepted Answer

If a class is full, join the waitlist and we’ll reach out as soon as a spot opens up! Burnaby classes run on a set schedule, so waitlisted swimmers are often the first to hear about openings.

What should I bring to Burnaby location lessons?

Accepted Answer

Just bring a swimsuit, towel, and anything else your swimmer normally uses, like goggles if they like them. Arrive a little early on the first lesson and watch the video below to locate the pool!

Question 6

What if I miss a lesson during the season at the Burnaby Location? Can I receive a refund or make-up lesson?

We understand that plans can change and occasional absences happen. Because our lessons are booked on a seasonal basis and your spot is reserved exclusively for you, we are unable to offer refunds, credits, or make-up lessons for missed classes. Thank you for your understanding!

Do I require a pool for mobile lessons?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you are booking mobile swim lessons you are responsible for providing a private pool. We teach at all types of pools, such as condo, backyard, basement, and hotel pools! Please note you are responsible for making sure that the management allows for lessons to be hosted at the pool. No refunds will be issued after bookings are made.

What if I don't have access to a private pool? Can we have lessons at the community centre?

Unfortunately, the recreation centres have strict rules against private instructors teaching at their pools due to a conflict of interest. If you do not have access to a private pool, try and reach out to a friend or family member! Many of our students use their grandparents' pool or have semi-private lessons with a friend in their pool.

My child has zero experience in water, should I get private mobile lessons?

100%! We always recommend getting private lessons when starting out because of the personalized one-on-one experience. All private lessons are student-centered, which means a fully customized lesson that focuses on the individual's strengths, weaknesses, fears, and joys. This will allow the student to learn the proper techniques of swimming and progress at a much faster pace!

When do you offer swimming lessons?

We offer swimming lessons all year round!

Mobile Lessons: Typically from Sept - June, we operate in indoor swimming pools such as in condo buildings. In the summer, we love to be in the sunshine and operate in outdoor rooftop condo pools and residential backyard pools!

Burnaby Location: All year on T/W/Th from 7:05pm-9:05pm

What is your availability for mobile swimming lessons?

Our instructors all have varying availability 7 days a week from 7am-9pm depending on the instructor's schedule!

Question 12

Do I need to provide any swimming equipment for mobile lessons?

Accepted Answer

Nope! Our instructors bring all the pool toys and equipment to the lesson, all you need to bring is a bathing suit and a good attitude 😊

How many lessons should I get?

Swimming is a skill that requires long-term practice.

Mobile: You can always schedule one lesson first (mobile only) to test the waters, and afterwards proceed with the suggested package as per your instructor's recommendation. We offer 3 different packages for your convenience: 6-pack (5% off), 12-pack (10% off), and 18-pack (15% off). Most of our clients opt for the 12 or 18 pack.

Burnaby Location: Register for the lesson set, either one or both!

What is the minimum age requirement?

We teach students of all ages! For our parent-and-tot classes, kids typically range from 6-30 months old. As for independent swimming lessons, we recommend for kids to be at least 2.5 years old. As for adults,  the possibilities are endless as it's never too late to learn how to swim!

Can you book mobile group swim lessons?

Yes, you can! Each extra child is +$20 per lesson for both 45-minute and 1-hour sessions. The host family or host parent sets up the group, collects everyone’s availability, organizes the schedule, and is the main contact. You’ll also need to host the lesson at your private pool and make sure everyone can get in. 😊

How do I make payments?

Burnaby Location: We accept credit card and e-transfer. Mobile: We accept credit card and e-transfer. Payments must be made in full prior to the lesson start date or subject to cancellation. Group lessons will be billed to and paid in full by the host parent. The host parent will then be responsible for splitting the bill with other parents. 
*Please note that all prices are INCLUSIVE of a 3% credit card fee and 5% GST. If you wish to omit the 3% credit card fee, please email us directly to pay via e-transfer (info@coastalwavesswimschool.com).

Absolutely! Whether you are brand new to swimming and are looking to finally tick this off your bucket list, are re-engaging in swimming after a decade of taking a break, or are looking to improve your technique for an upcoming triathlon, we can help!

Question 18

How many lessons do I need to learn how to swim?

Accepted Answer

The answer is simple, it depends.

Whether you are an adult or child, experienced or unexperienced, it really varies! If you are registering for a child who is starting from zero and is looking to learn all the ins and outs, and maybe even complete all 9 swim levels, it will be a long-term commitment of a few years. Kids typically swim from 3 y/o - 14 y/o, so you have the flexibility to book as many lessons as you'd like. To see the best results, we'd recommend sticking to a weekly schedule for a minimum of 6 weeks. The same goes for adults - if you are a beginner, expect to learn the basics within 6-18 lessons. For reference, most our swimmers swim 1-2x/week on a seasonal term; Sept-Dec, Jan-Mar, Apr-June, July-Aug.

Mobile: Keep in mind that our availability is based around our instructor's schedule, so we may only be able to book you so far in advance.

Burnaby: We rent the Fitness 2000 location on T/W/Th from 7:05-9:05pm all year round so let us know which day and time works and we'll get you pre-registered!

How do I know which swim level to register for?

Do you offer semi-private lessons for friends or siblings?

Yes! Semi-private lessons are a great option for friends, partners, or siblings who want to learn together. They’re designed for swimmers at a similar level, so everyone gets a lesson that’s fun, focused, and effective! This is offered at our Burnaby location and for Mobile Lessons.

Question 22

I have a vacation planned for 2 weeks in the middle of the lesson set, will I be charged for these 2 weeks?

Mobile: As long as we are notified early on of the absent dates, your lessons can be rescheduled to another date. The minimum time required to reschedule a booked lesson is 24 hours. Any lessons rescheduled less than this will be considered a cancelled lesson and will not be refunded.

Burnaby: The lessons come as a package so no refund will be provided for missed lessons.

What happens if my child is sick?

Mobile: 24-hours of notice must be given prior to rescheduling. If less than 24-hours of notice is given your lesson will cancelled and no refund will be issued.

Burnaby: The lesson will be cancelled and no refund will be issued.

What happens if I cancel lessons midway through the set?

Accepted Answer

Mobile: You can choose to reschedule the remaining lessons to another day! However, no refunds are issued after the total payment is made.

Burnaby: No refund is given.
